http://AMAskincare.com 949.428.4500 Here we are in one of the treatment rooms where we perform the magic of laser skin resurfacing with an erbium laser. The procedure that we are looking at today is an epidermal laser resurfacing peel and regeneration using an erbium laser. The very top, surface layer of our skin is the epidermis and it too has multiple layers within that layer. The very top layer of the epidermis is in fact dead skin. Which of course ladies know all about because when you do your exfoliations that’s what you are trying to get off. The dead skin that makes you look dull. This is also what laser skin resurfacing removes. Underneath that dead skin or that dead layer are live epithelial cells. The live cell layers that the skin is naturally reproducing on a 30 to 40 day cycle. The new epithelial cells come up and push the old cells off and by the way most of the dust in your house is all that dead skin coming off. However, who wants to wait 30 or 40 days for a new layer of skin? When you were a kid you got it in 3 to 5 days. So the laser skin resurfacing that you are about to see takes the dead layer off and stimulates the basil cells, which are like the stem cells at the bottom of the epithelium, to reproduce very quickly en mass so that a whole army of new epithelial cells march to the surface in about 3 days and push the old epithelium off. Revealing a gorgeous brand new, radiant layer of new epithelial cells. When you watch the laser skin resurfacing procedure you’ll see how the erbium laser is moving all over the face. You can see the difference before and after the procedure. Dr Alice Pien is performing the laser skin resurfacing procedure with and erbium laser. She’s like an artist as she moves the different erbium laser energies over the surface of the skin. It looks bizarre and exciting but what you should know for sure is that it is not painful at all. As you can see from the patient, they are talking through the laser resurfacing procedure and they are very comfortable. The face or the skin of the face is completely numbed up before the resurfacing procedure. You barely feel it at all and afterwords you look like you have a moderate sunburn and that redness goes away in 2 to 3 days. Then of course, the laser resurfacing peel takes 3 to 5 days as I mentioned earlier. We have many women who come in once a month to have laser skin resurfacing with the erbium laser so that they can essentially physiologically simulate what their body was doing when they were 10 years old.
