Finasteride inhibits metabolism of testosterone but still antagonizes its actions. How its possible? Its all due to its active metabolite dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which leads all the actions of testosterone as it shows more affinity on androgen receptors. So elevated levels of DHT leads to few of the pathological conditions like Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), acne, alopecia and even hirsutism. In this context, Finasteride inhibits type II 5-alpha reductase enzyme therefore it reduces DHT levels in serum. #bph #5alphareductase #finasteride
