In the United States, one in three adults is at risk for developing kidney disease. Risk factors include diabetes, hypertension or high blood pressure, family history of kidney disease, heart disease and recurrent urinary tract infections. The good news is that three of these factors – diabetes, hypertension and heart disease – can be improved with renal nutrition therapy. Vanessa Rojas-Bautista, RDN is a clinical renal dietitian at UC Irvine Health. In this presentation, she explains how dietitians can help those who are either at risk for Chronic Kidney Disease or who already have a diagnosis. Rojas-Bautista explains how an individualized nutrition prescription works and how a balanced diet can prevent kidney disease.
