Ira Ockene, MD, Director, Preventive Cardiology Program, was recently interviewed for a Health Watch segment on whether one should fast before a cholesterol test or not. The test, called a lipid panel, shows total cholesterol, HDL (i.e., good cholesterol), LDL (i.e., bad cholesterol) and triglycerides. “If triglycerides are an issue, there will be a notable difference in one’s results,” says Dr. Ockene. “If triglycerides aren’t an issue, there won’t be much difference at all.” www.umassmemorialhealthcare.org Looking for a great doctor?
