Now thyroid treatment is not the first time approach. It is a matter of trial and error. It is like a control of sugar and blood pressure, what we usually do. We have to modulate the dose depending on the response and for us the control of sugar is determined by your blood sugar levels, the control of thyroid hormones in the body is actually determined by the levels of TSH, T3 and T$ levels, in which the most sensitive is the TSH levels,. Now the TSH levels is low, that means you have hypothyroidism, and if you have TSH levels which is high, that means you have hypothyroidism. That means the thyroid hormones level in your body is low, and the treatment obviously involves the replacement of thyroid hormones. We have thyroxine hormones which are available in the brands in the strength like 100 micrograms and 125 micrograms and so many other doses. So initially a dose of thyroxine is started and the TSH level is monitored. The TSH level is the most sensitive. So that’s what we monitor most of the time. Make sure that the TSH level which is monitored is in an early morning sample, in an empty stomach, because that is a very sensitive index. In any case, if there is a fluctuation, it is always better to go for another testing called the TSH with the free T4and free T3 level estimation. This is more sensitive than the normal T3, T4 testing which is done. In any case, when you have a fluctuation in the levels of hormone in the body, it is imperative that you go and meet either an endocrinologist or an ENT specialist who has got a good experience in the management of the thyroid levels, so that he can give you a proper treatment and control the thyroid hormones levels in the body, because thyroid hormones level estimation or the presence in the body is very important. The thyroid is responsible for very vital functions of the body and the control of this level is very important in the body.
