Good fat vs bad fat. What is the deal? Which fats are healthy and or unhealthy. We break the myth! Saturated, hydrogenated, trans fat you name it! Check out Lindsay’s page: http://www.lindsaypleskot.com Limit Saturated Fat: Although your body does need some fat for important functions like absorbing certain vitamins and cushioning your organs, not all fats are created equal. Saturated fats, which are usually found in animal foods like full fat dairy and fatty meats, can increase LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) levels in your blood. Coconut and palm oil, unlike other plant oils which are usually a good source of healthy fats, are also sources of saturated fat. Limit fats that are solid at room temperature. The other fats that can have a negative impact on both good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterols are trans fats, as discussed in Heart Health Tip #4. Try this: Choose skim or 1% milk Choose lean protein like skinless poultry and fish or vegetarian sources like tofu and legumes most of the time limit red meat to 1-2 servings/week and trim off visible fat replace butter with oils like olive and canola oils. Canola oil is good for cooking as it has a high smoke point while olive oil is good for things like salad dressings. Get Rid of Trans Fats Trans fats can be found in small amounts in some red meats and dairy, but they are usually the product of a process called “partial hydrogenation”. This process turns liquid fats into semi-solid, artificial fats that can clog arteries. According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, naturally occurring trans fats aren’t believed to have the same damaging effects as artificial trans fats, but they should still be limited.Like saturated fats, trans fats can increase the bad cholesterol in your body (LDL cholesterol) but they can also decrease the amount of good cholesterol (HDL cholesterol). Trans fats are most commonly found in fried foods and commercial baked goods as they increase the shelf life and contribute to texture and flavor. Make sure to read food labels to help you make healthy choices. Along with the nutrition facts table where trans fats are listed, it is also a good idea to read the ingredients list. If the word hydrogenated appears in the list, there are traces of trans fats in the product. Try this: Read food labels and pay attention to the amount of trans fat or whether hydrogenated oils are in the ingredients list Limit the amount of fried and processed foods in your diet Choose soft margarines or spreads that are labeled “trans-fat free” or “non-hydrogenated If you are dining out, don’t be shy to ask about the trans fat content of menu items Include Healthy Fats: With all this talk about fat, let’s talk about the good stuff. As mentioned before, our bodies do need fat to function at their best. Among other things, fat plays a role in the absorption of certain vitamins, hormone production and keeping us full and satisfied! So what are the fats that we want to include in our diets most often? Unsaturated fats, both poly and mono unsaturated. Unlike saturated and trans fats, unsaturated fats can actually help to lower bad cholesterol levels in the body. These healthy fats generally come from plant sources such as avocadoes, nuts, non-hydrogenated margarines and plant oils (with the exception of coconut and palm oils). Non-plant sources of these healthy fats are cold water fish, which contain heart healthy Omega-3 fatty acids. Including these fats in your diet on a daily basis will help promote good health, especially when replacing them for saturated and trans fats. Try this: use avocado on a sandwhich instead of cheese cook with non-hydrogenated margarine or oil instead of butter add nuts to your morning oatmeal make your own salad dressing using olive oil and balsamic vinegar eat fish at least 2 times per week FREE 28 Day Workout VIDEO Calendar & Top Fitness Secret Tips Guide at: http://freeworkoutcalendar.com ============================ ☆ Click Below to SUBSCRIBE for NEW Videos Every Week! http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=zacharyfiorido ☆ WEBSITE: https://BeautyandTheFit.com ============================ ☆ TWEET TWEET: https://twitter.com/zacharyfiorido ☆ FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/ZacharyFiorido ☆ INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/zacharyfiorido/ ☆ SNAPCHAT: ZacharyFiorido ============================ About This Video: IS FAT HEALTHY?
