The normal value of the platelet count in an individual is about 1 to 4 lakh. A slight elevation in these values should not be of worry. But if there is a gross elevation, then we need to think of what could be the possible reasons for this. Like for example this can increase in case of injuries and infections in case of blood loss and even sometimes after exercise, the values can be elevated. So it is important to identify what are the basic reason than thinking of very major conditions where the platelets may be elevated. But if the values are very high, then we need to think of other reasons which can elevate the platelet counts. Like for example it increase in hemolytic disorders. In certain types of anemia also, the platelet count is found to be elevated. It is also elevated in disease of the spleen or in conditions where the spleen is removed or it can be elevated in certain types of infections. So it is important to identify the root cause and deal with this issue.
