Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) helps you relax your body and mind though a simple process of tensing and releasing your muscles. To achieve the best results with this tool, find a quiet place free of distractions where you can sit or lie down comfortably for 10 minutes. PMR is just one of the interactive self-help tools featured on the High Res website and app which are available on the Department of Veterans’ Affairs At Ease mental health portal at http://at-ease.dva.gov.au/highres PMR is safe for most people, however if you have a serious physical health problem (for example, high blood pressure) you should seek medical advice first. If you are carrying an injury or have a history of physical pain in a particular part of your body, it is important to avoid straining that area. The most common mistake is to tense too quickly or too much.
