What Are Ketones What Is Ketosis The A Ketogenic Diet Ketones are organic compounds that are produced when your body breaks down fat for energy. This process, known as ketosis, occurs naturally when your carbohydrate intake is low. Low carbohydrate intake results in an insufficient level of available glucose, which is the fuel your body usually burns for energy. When this happens, your body automatically looks for an alternative fuel source. so it starts burning fat through a process known as beta-oxidation. Ketones are formed for use as fuel for the body and brain. This is most likely to happen if you’re doing serious fasting or prolonged exercise, or eating a low-carb, ketogenic diet, like the one described in this video.
