Cholesterol is a lipid (fat) which is produced by the liver. Cholesterol is vital for normal body function. Every cell in our body has cholesterol in its outer layer. The amount of cholesterol in human blood can vary from 3.6 mmol/liter to 7.8 mmol/liter. If both blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels are high, the risk of developing coronary heart disease rises significantly.
