In other words, the terms renal dysfunction, renal disorders and kidney problems mean basically the same thing. Chronic kidney disease is one of the most serious forms of renal dysfunction. It constitutes a serious threat resulting from damage to the nephrons, the tiny structures inside your kidneys that filter blood. Damage from kidney disease often takes place over a long period of time. Both kidneys may affected. Often, no symptoms of renal dysfunction occur until serious irreversible damage has already been done. Kidneys can minimally function even when they are 85 percent damaged, so there might be few signs that anything is wrong. Here are two of the most common causes of renal dysfunction. Diabetes In diabetes cases, the human body doesn’t use glucose, or sugar, the way it should. Glucose remains in the blood and actually begins to react with the body like a toxin. Kidney damage is likely when this happens. High blood pressure, which is also known as hypertension. High blood pressure can damage blood vessels in the kidneys, compromising their ability to filter the blood. Heredity Genetics appears to play a role in kidney health. Most people who have ever suffered from kidney stones usually have several relatives who have them too. You may be at a higher risk for renal dysfunction if there are other people in your family who have had it.
