Watch this video for some quick and easy recipes to help you recover from Fever! —————————– Fever Fever is the body’s own way of expelling harmful bacteria and viruses, which can otherwise cause an infection in the body. The body increases its temperature to create an environment that prohibits growth of such bacteria or viruses. —————————– Symptoms to look for: • Headaches, body ache, shivering, loss of appetite, dehydration & weakness —————————– Food groups to consume in fever: 1. Liquids: Re-hydrates body and flushes out toxins Foods to consume: Fresh fruit and vegetable juices, buttermilk, coconut water, broths and soups 2. Vitamin A, E & C: Strengthen body’s immunity and fights infections Foods to consume: Papaya, oranges, watermelon, kiwis, guava, strawberries, peaches and mangoes 3. Proteins: Easy to digest and energizes the body Foods to consume: Milk, eggs, lentils, green gram (moong), sprouts and fish 4. Carbohydrates: They are easy to digest and gives instant energy Foods to consume: Pears, bananas, honey, jaggery, rice, potatoes and sweet potatoes —————————– Recipes based on the above food groups: Recipe 1: Idli You need to do the preparation a day in advance. 1. First we need to prepare the idli batter 2. You will need 4 cups of idli rice thoroughly washed with water 3. Soak these in water for about 4 hrs. Make sure that the water level is 2 inches above the rice 4. When the rice has soaked for about 3 hrs, we need to soak 1 cup of split black gram also known as urad daal in water for about 30 min. Again ensure 3 inches of water layer on top 5. After 30 min, add the lentils into a grinder 6. Add 1 cup water 7. Grind it till it’s smooth and fluffy. Should take about 15 min 8. Next, transfer this into a bowl and keep it aside 9. Strain the water from the rice and add to the grinder 10. Add 1 ½ cup of water 11. Grind this well till it becomes smooth. This should take about 30 min 12. Once done mix the rice with the lentils 13. Add 1 tsp salt 14. Mix this thoroughly to combine the two ingredients 15. This should be a fluffy batter 16. Now this needs to be fermented. Keeping this away for about 6-8 hours should do the trick. It needs a warm temperature of about 32°C. If you are living in the US, you can keep it inside the oven. Don’t switch on the oven 17. Once done you will notice that the batter has risen 18. Mix this well again 19. Your batter is ready 20. Use an idli mold. Sprinkle it with some oil 21. Now place about 1 tbsp batter in each mold 22. Steam in a vessel for about 10-12 mins 23. Once, done allow the idli to cool slightly before you remove Recipe 2: Tomato Soup 1. Heat 2 tsp olive oil in a vessel 2. Add 1 tbsp chopped onions to it 3. Saute them this for 2 minutes 4. Now, add 1 finely chopped tomato in this 5. Also add some salt and pepper to taste 6. Stir and add ½ tsp some oregano and dried basil each 7. We will chop 3 chopped mushrooms and add in this 8. Now add 1 ½ cups of water in this 9. Now boil this mixture 10. Once boiled, and allow it to simmer for 18-20 minutes 11.Finally add add ½ cup finely chopped spinach in this mixture 12. Stir and allow it to simmer for another 5 minutes 13.
