This is basically because the larger muscle groups in your body do not have the kind of endurance smaller muscles have. Tones the Synergist Muscles: The synergist muscles add stability to the chest area and the butterfly chest exercise strengthens those muscles. Strong muscles prevent shoulder injuries with the help of this exercise. * Here are a few steps that show you exactly how to perform the butterfly exercise: Begin by first making yourself comfortable on the exercising chair with your back resting flat on the pad. Now with your arms parallel to the floor, hold the handles of the machine and adjust it according to your comfort. Then push both the handles to the middle at the same time until they come together. Squeeze your chest while pushing the handles together and also don’t forget to exhale during this part of the exercise. Hold this contraction for a few seconds and come back to the starting position and your chest muscles should feel completely stretched. During this process remember to inhale.
