While basic jogging is a fine warm-up for any activity, there is a better alternative for sprinters, and it’s called dynamic warm-ups. The difference between a dynamic warm-up and an average jog is that it involves more controlled movements such as skipping, some jumps, and running drills more specific to sprinting. The idea is to have constant movement throughout the dynamic warm-up. The other benefit of dynamic warm-ups is that it decreases the amount of fatigue that you may experience through normal warm-ups like jogging and other means. It also gives you an opportunity to practice your running drills during your warm-up. A typical dynamic warm-up consists of an array of running drills with skips in between to get the heart rate up. It’s a great combination workout; it can save some time between you preparing for technique as well as making sure you’re warmed up the event that you’re going to run. And that’s how to warm up before sprinting.
