In a world-first study, researchers at The University of Western Australia will examine the effect medicinal cannabis has on adults suffering from chronic insomnia. Around one in three Australians have regular difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep and it’s believed the sedation effect brought on by medicinal cannabis could be an alternative treatment for those experiencing the condition. The study will be coordinated through the UWA Centre for Sleep Science using a cannabinoid extract provided by Zelda Therapeuatics, an Australian medical research and development company.
