The Community Mental Health (CMH) Master’s of Arts Program trains students to become licensed therapists and leaders in empowering disenfranchised communities. Our graduates are a driving force in meeting the needs of and creating change for populations who have been underserved and overlooked by traditional counseling services. CMH: Individual Psychotherapy, Social Justice and Transformation, Liberation, Critical, and Community Psychologies CMH students learn to address systemic issues within a patient’s community and surroundings that affect mental health. Many of our graduates are proactively involved with public policy, community organizing, defending the rights of underserved groups, and public health. CMH provides students with a strong theoretical background with an emphasis on practical application: Social justice perspectives Cultural Humility Practice-Based Evidence Psychodynamics, Humanistic Mindfulness, and Family Systems Therapy Trauma-informed therapies Recovery and resiliency models of treatment Community psychology theory and praxis.
