Meet John Norwood, President of California Pool and Spa Association: Hello my name is John Norwood I’m the President & chief lobbyist for the California Pool and Spa Association formally known as spec. You know every person who makes a living in pool and spa industry has a compelling interest in protecting this industry from unwarranted new laws and regulations. Bad laws have a serious effect on an industry they can cause time and money literally put an entire industry out of business. In the forty years spec has work on behalf this industry has been a very successful in defeating unwarranted legislation on such issues as the service tax, mandated pool barriers, restrictions on the transportation chemical, limits on the use an independent contractors, bans on use of local water resources. The fact is that spec has been and is the only organization registered to lobby on behalf of the pool and spas industry in California. However in order to maintain our abilities in this industry we need to change grow this organization so then it has a membership base finance is necessary respond to the modern political regulatory environment this is an expensive proposition it takes lawyers lobbyist staff to do it to do it right That is why we’re changing the name of the organization to the CSPA and adding benefits that we hope will attract new members. It is essential from a public policy And consumer membership standpoint clearly identified his organization and its efforts with California the largest market in the country for swimming pools & spas. Legislators and regulators need to understand we are representing their small business constituents when we engage on bad bills regulations. Potential members need to understand that we were asking for financial support to defend their business interests in the California market and consumers need to know that they can access our organization to find the leading professionals in the Pool and Spa industry right here in California. So what’s the plan? California CSPA association will continue its role in the representing this industry legislation and regulatory agencies by expanding our membership. We hope to building viable grassroots advocacy organization actively engage legislative and regulatory issues and we have the adequate finances to do. In an addition we plan to build our website to a central source or clearinghouse for information pool and spa industry not only for consumers but for the industry Itself. We want to partner with other organizations associations to maintain simple calendar of events educational opportunities those in the industry We plan to build a portal for consumers seeking information about pools and squalls professionals and they can trust to provide these products and services plan to promote online chat rooms titles in the industry share information we go for advice and information affecting their business’s We want to provide marketing opportunities for consumers as well as b2b transactions in order to accomplish these goals and maintain our ability to defend you in this industry. It is essential that we grow this organization across California’s pool and spa industry.
